Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month Announced

In recognition of National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in December, NCJRS has created an Impaired Driving Special Feature. This special feature contains links to publications and Web sites that provide information about impaired driving and efforts aimed at preventing individuals from driving while impaired. (NCJRS)

BJA Releases Drug Court Grant Announcement

Application deadline: January 10, 2008
The purpose of the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is to provide resources to state, local, and tribal governments and to state and local courts to develop and implement adult treatment drug courts that effectively integrate treatment, testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting. Funding Available To Protect the Elderly

Application deadline: February 5, 2008
NIJ is funding Research and Evaluation on the Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of Elderly Individuals and Residents of Residential Care Facilities. Priority research areas include identifying and exploring forensic markers of physical abuse; examining the use of medication; evaluating programs designed to prevent, deter, detect, investigate, and prosecute abuse; and conducting a rigorous external evaluation of the Orange County Elder Forensic Center, University of California, Irvine. Motor Vehicle Title Information Program Grant Available

Application deadline: January 10, 2008
The goal of the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) Participation Program is to increase the number of states that currently provide data to NMVTIS and to begin planning for future, fully online connectivity where data are shared real-time and instant title checks occur before a title is issued. NIJ Offers Funding for Research
Application deadline: March 5, 2008
The Crime and Justice Research solicitation is now available. The solicitation focuses on social and behavioral research and evaluation on topics relevant to state and/or local criminal and juvenile justice policy and practice. Applications should not duplicate NIJ's targeted solicitations, or those that could fall under the targeted solicitations but require additional funding. (NIJ)
 
Research Needed To Address Terrorism

Application deadline: February 5, 2008
NIJ seeks applications for its Research on Terrorism solicitation. Applications may address either domestic or international terrorism, but research should have direct, immediate, and obvious implications for criminal justice policy and practice in the United States. (NIJ)

 
Three OVC Fellowship Program Grants Now Available

Application deadline: January 10, 2008
OVC will award three grants of up to $125,000 to individuals through the 2008 Victim Assistance Fellowship Program. This program will address gaps in services for crime victims by developing training, technical assistance, and public awareness resources for practitioners serving victims of crime. (OVC)

Guide Provides Information on Juvenile Records Expungement

Published by the Juvenile Law Center, "Juvenile Records Expungement: A Guide for Defense Attorneys" provides attorneys and youth advocates with information about the accessibility of juvenile records, the consequences of having a juvenile record, and the process for petitioning the court for an expungement. OJJDP Guide Helps Siblings of Abducted Children

Written by siblings of abducted children, "What About Me? Coping With the Abduction of a Brother or Sister" (NCJ 217714, 69 pp.) provides help and support for siblings of children who have been abducted. The guide includes a DVD that features informative interviews with several of the publication’s authors. (OJJDP) order print copy

 
Program Helps Disabled Inmates After Release

"Helping Inmates Obtain Federal Disability Benefits" (NCJ 216297, 29 pp.) examines three programs--one in Texas, one in Philadelphia, and one in New York--that help inmates prepare and file prerelease applications for federal disability benefits so they can continue to receive treatment without interruption after they are released from prison or jail. Serving Survivors of Multiple Sexual Assault Victimizations

"Helping Sexual Assault Survivors with Multiple Victimizations and Needs: A Guide for Agencies Serving Sexual Assault Survivors" identifies issues and considerations unique to this population. This new guide was developed by the University of Iowa School of Social Work under an OVC contract. It also offers advocacy agencies practical strategies for assessing and enhancing their responses to these survivors. (OVC)

Blueprints Conference To Be Held in Denver

On March 17-19, 2008, in Denver, Colorado, the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence will hold its biennial Blueprints Conference. The conference will provide information on youth violence, delinquency, and evidence-based prevention and intervention programs. (OJJDP)

 
ONDCP To Hold Student Drug Testing Summit

ONDCP will host a Student Drug Testing Summit for charter schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 19, 2007. Attendees will learn about random student drug testing and will be encouraged to promote this drug prevention strategy at the local level. Topics will include types of testing available, legal issues, program development, and student assistance programs. (ONDCP)
