Field Searches

Search specific fields or combinations of fields to refine your search.

• Author Search
• Journal Name Search
• NCJ Number Search
• Language Search

Title Search

This search looks only for terms listed in the Title field of the abstract record.

Author Search

This search looks only for authors', corporate authors, and editors' names, including both people and organizations. Because some records include the authors' full names and others include only the first initial of the first name, users need to search for both. For example, to search for materials by Jane Smith, enter:

This search will find the initial "j" or "jane" adjacent to the word "smith." Use quotation marks to search for an exact phrase.

Journal Name Search

This search looks only for terms listed in the Journal Name/Journal Title field of the abstract record.

NCJ Number Search

All publications in the database have an accession number, also called an NCJ number. For example, to search for NCJ 214567, type:

Language Search

The collection contains primarily English language documents. However, foreign language documents are added occasionally and abstracted in English. To search for materials in a specific language select the desired language from the menu provided in the Language field. The menu lists all of the languages contained in the Abstracts Database. If a language does not appear there are no documents in that language in the collection.
