  Annotation: Data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics database are tabulated for the 1982-1994 period on suspects in criminal matters, defendants in cases terminated in U.S. district courts, defendants in cases disposed of by U.S. magistrates, offenders convicted in cases terminated in U.S. district courts, and released prisoners with U.S. district court sentences.
Abstract: Tables describe the disposition of cases handled by U.S. attorneys and provide data on defendants according to the most serious offense charged, convicted offenders according to the most serious offense of conviction, sentences to incarceration longer than 4 days, and average length of imposed prison sentences for adult offenders sentenced to a maximum term. Tables also classify prisoners according to the offense associated with the longest sentence actually imposed and include data on time served in prison. Data tables are generally grouped according to prosecution, adjudication, sentencing, and corrections. A glossary is included. 18 tables
