This fact sheet describes a publication of the American Youth Policy Forum titled "MORE Things That DO Make a Difference for Youth: A Compendium of Evaluations of Youth Programs and Practices," Volume II, and lists the nine program principles that lead to positive outcomes for young people.
Abstract
The Compendium profiles evaluated programs that effectively address juvenile delinquency prevention, improvements in academic achievement, and other youth issues. The editors reviewed 150 documents and chose 46 programs, based on three criteria: program characteristics, data produced, and quality of evaluation. The nine crucial program principles they identified were: (1) quality of implementation; (2) caring, knowledgeable adults; (3) high standards and expectations; (4) parent/guardian participation; (5) community involvement; (6) holistic approaches; (7) youth as resources/community service and service-learning; (8) work-based learning; and (9) long-term services, support, and follow-up. The Compendium describes each program with respect to the research findings, crucial components, and factors that contributed to the program's success. Source and price information
