The Problem-Specific Guides from the Office of Community Oriented Policing, U.S. Department of Justice, summarize knowledge about how police can reduce the harm caused by specific crime and disorder problems. The guides are written for officers of any rank or assignment who must address the specific problem the guides cover. This guide addresses the problem of robberies of taxi drivers. The guide begins by describing the problem of taxi driver robbery and notes that one of the biggest barriers to understanding this problem is the lack of data specifically collected on this crime. This is followed by a look at the environment in which taxi drivers work and a discussion of the factors that increase the risks of robbery of taxi drivers. The guide then identifies a series of questions that local officers may address to help them identify the problem in their community. These questions address taxi company practices, incidents of taxi driver robberies, victims and offenders of taxi driver robberies, and location/times of the problem.
