This guide provides an overview of the problem of bank robbery, understanding the local problem, and responses to the problem of bank robbery.
Abstract
The term bank refers to the financial corporation that operates the branches. Most bank robberies are robberies of bank branches. Bank robbery is one aspect of a larger set of problems related to robbery and to financial crimes involving banks. However, this guide is limited to addressing the particular harms created by bank robbery. In addition, the guide is focused on individual retail bank branches at different locations. After a generalized description of bank robbery, there is a need to combine the basic facts with a more specific understanding of the local problem. Analyzing the local problem carefully will help the police department to design a more effective response strategy. In addition, analyzing the local problem will give the police a better understanding of the factors that contribute to it and will be able to establish a baseline for measuring effectiveness. Completion of this analysis allows the police to consider possible responses to the problem. Strategies are presented that will provide a foundation for addressing a particular bank robbery problem. The strategies are drawn from a variety of studies and police reports. Responses should be tailored to local circumstances and in most cases an effective strategy will involve several different responses. Appendix and references
