Annotation: This fact sheet presents an overview of the data gathered on juvenile delinquency probation disposition cases for 2005.
Abstract: Highlights from the fact sheet include: (1) one-third of all delinquency cases (556,500) disposed in 2005 received probation as the most serious disposition; (2) in 2005, cases in which adjudicated delinquents were ordered to probation (373,400) accounted for 67 percent of all delinquency cases placed on probation; (3) 67 percent of cases placed on probation involved White juveniles, 30 percent involved African-American juveniles, and 3 percent involved other races; and (4) the proportion of adjudicated cases that involved property offenses and received formal probation as the most severe disposition declined more than 20 percent between 1985 and 2005 (from 60 percent to 36 percent). This fact was based on the report Juvenile Court Statistics 2005 that presents data on juvenile delinquency probation case dispositions in juvenile court for 2005. Tables and figures
