This report presents the results of testing the mobile device data acquisition tool, BitPim Version 1.0.6-official used in computer forensic investigations.

Abstract

Results of the testing showed that the BitPim Version 1.0.6-official acquired all supported data objects completely and accurately from the selected test mobile devices with noted exceptions. The Computer Forensics Tool Testing (CFTT), a joint project of the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST's) Office of Law Enforcement Standards and Information Technology Laboratory, provides measurable assurance to practitioners, researchers, and others that the tools used in computer forensics investigations provide accurate results. This report presents the results from testing BitPim, version 1.0.6-official, against the Non-GSM Mobile Device and Associated Media Tool Test Assertions and Test Plan Version 1.1. These results provide the information necessary for developers to improve tools, users to make informed choices, and the legal community and others to understand the tool's capabilities.
