Today, law enforcement officials are being tasked with understanding and planning for public health risks. This guide was developed, with support from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), to help law enforcement personnel from departments of all sizes and at all stages of the pandemic influenza planning process ensure their plans are as comprehensive, adaptable, and current as possible. It is also designed to help agencies comply with National Incident Management System (NIMS) guidelines. The guide is designed to be interactive, current, easily downloadable, and applicable to departments of varying sizes. Users will be able to download the document and click links to templates and other resources that can help guide them through the planning process. The table of contents serve as a basic outline of the process: 1) identify the department planning team, 2) gather information and resources, 3) review and revise existing (or develop new) plan components that ensure continuity of operations, 4) communications prior to and during a pandemic influenza, 5) planning for activation, 6) planning for recovery, and 7) exercise and update the plan.
