The National Victim Assistance Academy is a university-based foundation level course of study in victim assistance and victimology that was developed through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) to a coordinated team of co-sponsors. The 45-hour academic-based, rigorous course curriculum emphasizes foundations in victimology and victims' rights and services, as well as new developments in the field of victim assistance. This report, supported by OVC, covers more than 35 different subject areas, developed to serve as the course curriculum. Some of the specific topic areas covered include: restorative justice, mental health needs, underserved victims, domestic violence, sexual assault, child victimization, homicide, drunk driving, victimization of the elderly, victimization of individuals with disabilities, and financial crime.
