This Performance Report from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) provides information on activities funded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program for FY 2009, FY 2010, and the period July 2010 to June 2011.
Abstract
In FY 2009 and FY 2010 61 percent of the funds were allocated to activities supporting law enforcement; 11 percent were allocated to planning, evaluation, and technology improvement; 9 percent to prosecution and court; 6 percent to both drug treatment and enforcement, and prevention and education; 5 percent to corrections and community corrections; and 1 percent to crime victim and witness programs. Key findings on drug task force activities funded during the period July 2010 to June 2011 include the following: by weight, marijuana was the most seized drug nationally; marijuana was the only drug reported as being seized by every State that reported such seizures; by weight, the majority of all drugs were seized in large seizures (busts), with this being especially true for cocaine; and the majority of drug task forces reporting drug seizure data were located in the Southwest (17 percent), the Great Lakes (22 percent), and the Southeast (23 percent) regions.
