This report provides concrete suggestions and strategies for building partnerships to strengthen the criminal justice system and to enhance community safety.
Abstract
This report provides information and tools to help paroling authorities heighten their interest in forming strong collaborative partnerships with key criminal justice stakeholders in their State. Section 1 provides the goals of the guide. Section 2 focuses on the significant influence that parole boards have on the larger criminal justice system, and how that influence can be strengthened and utilized in a more strategic manner. Section 3 examines the core evidence emerging from the research on effective strategies to reduce risk and recidivism. Section 4 details steps for successfully implementing evidence-based approaches to maintaining meaningful partnerships and leveraging resources, and includes a sample action plan and tools to guide parole boards through a process of updating the goals they hope to accomplish, as well as defining and implementing changes they conclude must be made in policy and/or practice. Section 5 offers methods for defining and measuring progress toward success, and revising practices as necessary. Section 6 provides references and endnotes; and section 7 lists helpful links to the Web site and provides other resources for further information and resources on this topic.
