Where can I learn more about the use of DNA to exonerate inmates postconviction?
Information on the use of DNA to exonerate inmates postconviction can be found on the Postconviction Testing and Wrongful Convictions section of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Web site. Through DNA grant funding, NIJ has provided millions of dollars to state and local forensic science laboratories to increase casework capacity, reduce backlogs, and improve quality. Grants obtained through programs such as the Postconviction DNA Testing Program assist in developing DNA evidence which may lead to the exoneration of innocent individuals. Information regarding funding opportunities related to forensics may be found on NIJ's Funding page.

For further information, please visit the Justice System: DNA section of our site. Additionally, the Innocence Project and the Justice Project can be contacted for additional information.
